Health Talk: More about Barley Grass Powder

We have been receiving some common questions asked about barley grass. Here is the information to review why barley grass is so important.

1. If I take too much barley grass, will it cause any harm to my body or become overdosed?

Not at all! Barley grass is a cereal grass also known as “green vegetable.” We need to eat a lot more than what we thought is enough for us. From our many years of experiences, we strongly recommend people to eat 5 to 7 servings (the size of tennis ball) of raw vegetables everyday. In today’s crops, there are hardly any high quality vegetables in the stores that meet the appropriate amount. Ron Johnson, the founder of Living Food Farm, has frequently tested vegetables in the stores for years with a refractometer - a tool that measures sugar contents (vitamin and minerals) of the vegetables. He has NOT seen any grocery vegetables that go up to “Excellent” level. As an additional fact, most of us would prefer to cook the vegetables by microwaving or boiling but these cooking methods “kills” the values contained in the vegetables. This is why our nutritionally high barley grass, when taken daily into our bodies as a raw powder, is very important for our bodies. That leads to the next question…

2. How much of barley grass should I take daily?

Since the vitamins and minerals in barley grass is higher than other vegetables such as broccoli or spinach, you don’t need to take 5-7 servings of barley grass. You will only need to take 3 tablespoons (or 9 teaspoons) of barley grass daily. We would recommend you to take more barley grass whenever the flu is spreading or if you are having a lot of health problems. If you are a beginner, it is important that you start with very small amounts. It can start like ½ teaspoon a day for a week and gradually increasing it to your desired amount. If you take too much, you may have queasy stomach, diarrhea, or gas. These symptoms aren't bad! Your body is cleansing the toxins and these symptoms will eventually go away.

3. When will I notice the change after taking barley grass?

It varies on each person and their healthiness. The first thing you probably will notice when taking barley grass is queasy stomach, diarrhea, or gas. It is great because the barley is detoxifying your body. IF you forget to take it daily or if you take a little once in a while, you probably won’t feel the difference. Barley grass contains valuable nutritions for your body and it takes time for your body to adjust (3-4 months). Most of responses by faithful members were feeling either energetic and/or healthier.

4. How do I take barley grass powder?

Most of us tend to just swallow them in tablespoons with some water. If you are not used to the taste of it, you can mix it with the juice or in the salad. You can be creative on how to take it as long as the barley powder is not cooked. We know it may not be the best taste in the world but it takes time to get used to it. Think of a child's typical reaction to eating vegetables. We encourage you to choose your overall health over how your tongue reacts. You may not realize how much your body is craving for high quality, nutrient-potent food such as barley grass powder.

Healthfully Yours,

Health Talk: Stevia ... what is it?

You may notice stevia as one of additional flavors for barley grass powder in our Living Food Farm website. Let us explain what stevia is so you can also benefit from it with your cooking that may need some sweetener such as desserts.

Stevia is a natural herbal-sweetener that comes from ground leaves grown in South America. It has been used by many people for centuries worldwide. They're popular in countries such as Korea and Japan, where people are especially cautious about the use of artificial sweeteners. Not just for food, stevia is also used in herbal medicines and toothpaste. South America natives have been using Stevia to make foods and beverages sweeter for hundreds of years. The Koreans, Japanese, and South America Natives didn’t have stevia related health problems.

Here’s another interesting fact that is mentioned in "The Stevia Cookbook" by Ray Sahelian and Donna Gates. The rodents were given massive doses of stevia for at least two generations. The rodents were healthy with no side effects whatsoever!

Stevia has 0 calories, 0 carbohydrates, 0 fat and is 300 times sweeter than sugar. It is also safe for teeth (does not cause cavities), diabetics, and those with high blood pressure.

When you first taste stevia, don't give up on it too quickly just because it doesn't taste like sugar. It will be close, but once you accept stevia's unique sweet taste, you'll like it. You can use raw honey, molasses, rice syrup, or fruit juice as mineral-rich natural sugar to blend with stevia for a better flavor.

If you are interested to buy some stevia or to learn more information about it, go to http://www.raysahelian.com/stevia.html

A list of health problems that are sugar related can be found at this website: http://www.mercola.com/article/sugar/dangers_of_sugar.htm#.

It would be wise to avoid sugar, don’t you think? Use stevia instead!

Yours in good health,
