Health Talk: Cool, Mango, and Prices

Stay coooooool
We hope that you are staying cool in the hot summer climate. Under an extreme hot weather, your body is easily dehydrated so we kindly remind you to drink plenty of water – at least 8 cups per day. Iced tea, soft drinks, sport drinks, or coffee are fluids but they do not qualify as water because it has an additional sugar or flavors. Your body needs a pure water to regulate its delicate fluid balance and body temperature. If you are an athlete, drink more than 8 cups water to avoid surprising cramps or heat strokes. We encourage you to drink water regularly and consistently throughout the day, rather than waiting until you become thirsty. Remember, when you are thirsty, it is too late!

Health Talk: Dr. Mary Ruth Swope Part II

We want to give our cool and misty greetings to every one of you, members of Living Food Farm, at wherever you may be enjoying the hot summer sun nearing the fireworks day of July 4th. June is already gone in a flash - so quick that we almost believed that it was deleted from the calendar!

Ron has been busy scrambling all over the farm, doing whatever he usually did over the last 26 years. The soil and new plants there gets most of his attention that caused Shirley to become jealous at times! Naturally, Ron and Shirley, as well as the rest of the Johnson and Schwartz families are excited for more new things to come this summer. These include the new crop of barley grass, sharing health information, improving our website’s look and services, and continue the chance to advocate better health for each of you.

Now, let’s focus back to the excellent book written by Dr. Mary Ruth Swope, as that book titled, “Green Leaves of Barley” continues to electrify us with valuable and serious information that an American cannot ignore! We want to cover the section on why America is a really sick country. The statistics included in that chapter regarding specific illness or disease is especially alarming. Read the summaries about each as they’re quoted from the book…

Heart disease
According to the Statistical Abstracts of the United States, more than one million Americans die annually from heart disease. Porportionally, there were very few deaths as reported back then in 1911 so why in only 90 years have it escalated so quickly? The answer is not simple, but it definitely involves changes in our eating habits.

Cancer
Over one-half million people died from cancer. That figure is up 600% percent since 1960! The American Institute of Cancer Research estimated in that as many as 60 percent of these cases could be related to diet.

Diabetes Mellitus
It has become rampant since the turn of this century. About 10 million Americans now have active cases, with nearly 600,000 new cases reported annually. Again, this illness is related to the way we eat.

Osteoporosis (porous or weakening bones)
This is a condition once only identified with grandmothers. Today, the United States now holds the record for osteoporosis. Approximately, 30 percent of women past menopause have it, and, for the first time in our history, it is also being found in young women and in men. These facts are unheard of in many countries. There are many research studies which allude to the fact that high phosphorus and/or phosphoric acid (found in soft drinks) pulls calcium out of the bony structures (bones, teeth, and nails) in the process of digestion and assimilation. This has a disastrous effect on bone density, leaving them porous and spongy.

There are more facts to be shared from that book. If you want to know more on what were mentioned, you are always welcome to find that book in your nearby bookstore.

Here’s a quick quote from Dr. Ruth Mary Swope, before we close this message: "Make 'wellness' instead of 'controlled illness' your lifetime goal."

Living Food Farm wants what’s best for you and we offer you our high quality barley grass from our nutritious soil. Our barley grass contains the very nutrients that our bodies really need to rebuild red blood cells which help our immune system stronger and prone to many threatening illnesses!

We will be right back with you with more Health Talk! Enjoy your summer with healthy eating till then!

Yours in good health!
