As we mentioned from our previous Health Talk, we promised to share with you what Kefir is all about and why should you also take Kefir along with Living Food Farm's barley grass powder and Goji Juice or Wolfberries as well as Celtic Sea Salt. We are sharing some important facts about Kefir that was excerpted from the book, "Body Ecology Diet" by Donna Gates.
What is Kefir?
Kefir is a cultured and microbial-rich food that helps restore the inner ecology. Kefir can come from goat or cow milk, or young coconut milk. Organic and raw is best. Kefir is almost like yogurt; only a little liquefy with tart taste. It has more therapeutic value with active yeast and friendly bacteria as compared to yogurt.
What Kefir is good for?
There are more than 400 different species of beneficial microorganisms living inside a healthy colon but often important food such as barley grass or other vitamins and minerals from vegetables and fruits couldn't enter and improve the systems in the body. With kefir to cleanse and improve the colon, vitamins and minerals from our barley grass will be able to absorb into the system and doing its job effectively. Kefir is known as natural antibiotic with active yeast and bacteria and it fights bad bacteria. Kefir is much better than taking antibiotics from doctors which will kill both good and bad bacteria and yeast. More reasons why kefir is good for us are listed below.
- Kefir and all cultured foods keep small and large intestines clean and free of parasites.
- Lose or reduce your cravings for carbohydrates and sugars.
- Contains a large quantity of calcium and magnesium
- Help with depression and constipation
- Good for people who are high-strung or nervous, for hyperactive children, or for people with sleep disorders
- Kefir and all fermented foods have a cleaning effect on both intestines and when they are enhanced; the liver will be able to function much better.
- It has excellent source of Vitamin B12 that cannot be made synthetically but must be grown in bacteria or molds. Vitamin B12 is essential for longevity.
When should I take Kefir?
Kefir makes a great morning meal along with barley grass or even better, with Shirley's Cookies. You can add herb-sweetened stevia, cinnamon, non-alcoholic vanilla, fruit flavoring or even Goji or Mangosteen Juice to your kefir.
For those with weak stomach, kefir may be too much so start slowly with only 4 ounces on empty stomach in the morning and increase gradually.
Who should take Kefir?
Anyone can benefit from drinking kefir. It is great for those who are lactose intolerant, have a weak ecology system, suffer yeast infection frequently, or for those who want to look young!
Coconut Kefir
Since the health of milk varies from their sources, Living Food Farm recommends using coconut water instead. Coconut kefir improves "friendly bacteria" in the body and its safer to drink. Coconut Kefir is an excellent addition in working with Goji or Mangosteen juice, Chinese wolfberries, Celtic sea salt and Living Food Farm’s green barley powder.
